(Including attending, influencing and chairing meetings)

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Understand more about how others view them.
  2. Assess their own attitudes behaviour and self image.
  3. Manage anger and emotions more effectively.
  4. Use negotiation when needed in the working environment.
  5. Communicate more effectively through conflict.

PROGRAMME:

  • Assessing your attitudes
  • Responding to negativity
  • Negotiation in the work place
  • Practice sessions
  • Image
    • How we view ourselves
    • How others view us
  • Identify the problems caused by those who go to the meetings you attend (including yourself!)
  • Recognise how to make a better contribution to meetings by:
    • Doing your homework.
    • Keeping your contributions short and to the point.
    • Keeping cool and courteous.
  • Know how to deal effectively with destructive behaviour from:
    • Wafflers
    • Turf warriors
    • Assassins
    • Dominators
    • Interrupters
  • Devise an action plan to improve the contribution you make to meetings.
  • Recap and action plans.

METHODOLOGY

Tutor led discussion, syndicate work, paper and participative exercises.
