Introduction to Assertion

OBJECTIVES:

By the end of the course, delegates will be able to:

  1. Recognise the difference between assertion, non assertion and aggression.
  2. Identify key non verbal behaviours for use when being assertive.
  3. Be able to use assertive behaviours that lead to win/win outcomes.

PROGRAMME:

  • What does assertion, non assertion and aggression mean? (ASS, NA, AGG)
  • The language of ASS, NA and AGG
  • Assertive statements - recognising and using a variety of effective types
  • Rights and responsibilities
  • Non verbal behaviour
  • Giving and receiving feedback.
  • Getting to win / win

METHODOLOGY

The course will include theory, tutor led discussions, practical excercises and syndicate work.

DURATION

1 day + ½ day follow up. (Further advanced assertion skills available on request)
